A quirky relationship unfolds between an immigrant and an all-American folk music fan.

Hurricane Smith (1952) as Sailor
Hurricane Smith and his marooned sailors escape from a South Seas island by stealing the ship of Capt. Raikes who's come to the island in search of slaves. Smith sails the ship to Australia where he charters it to Harry Gorvahlsen and Dr. Whitmore who claim to be studying flora and fauna. To fill out his crew, Smith "shanghais" Capt. Raikes who, by this time, has also made his way to Australia. During the course of the voyage, it becomes clear that Gorvahlsen and Whitmore are actually in search of a cache of gold that's been hidden on a South Seas island. Smith also seeks this gold, which he considers his own, as does Capt. Raikes. Complicating this 3-way rivalry is a growing shipboard romance between Smith and Dr. Whitmore's beautiful daughter, Luana. Events reach a violent climax when the treasure-island is finally reached.

Loumas, president of the Rock Island Trail company, tries to expand his rails into the Midwest but finds resistance of the steamship and stage-coach lines. The malicious Kirby Murrow tries everything to slow down Loumas' progress and doesn't even stop before sabotage. Only Constanze, daughter of banker Strong, believes in his success strong enough to support him financially.

But worse troubles are ahead: California is inching toward statehood, and certain people want to make it their private empire.

Dale Evans inherits a circus, but her dead father's partner (Grant Withers) is trying to take it away from her. Roy and Bob Nolan are filming a movie on location at the circus. They and a number of other western movie stars come to Dale's aid, putting on a show and catching the bad guys.

The story involves a rather odd flashback by Dale who is visiting El Dorado, home of her grandmother. She dreams about her grandmother's adventures including a romance with a cowboy who looks very much like Roy. Roy, of course, also exists in the present for Dale. Songs include "Go West, Young Man," "Lady Who Wouldn't Say Yes," and "Belle of the El Dorado."

A young girl goes to New York to find a bandleader who has stolen all the songs she wrote and is passing them off as his own. She soon meets and falls in love with a struggling young songwriter who has his own problems.

The action plot (Don's pursuit of the fire starter) parallels Tana's comic efforts to scare tenderfoot Celia back to the city.

Henry and his pal Dizzy go into the soap business. Their attempt to raise money turns into a disaster when they get the soap formula wrong. But the Alaska trip is really on the level. It's been organized by Sylvanus Q. Sattherwaite, businessman and philanthropist. But Henry still doesn't have the money...
