Though Tina Turner's fame is primarily due to a career in R&B spanning 50 years, she has also made an indelible mark as an actress in film. Turner's first film role was in the Who's rock opera "Tommy" as an LSD-dealing prostitute called "The Acid Queen," with many sequences featuring religious and psychedelic imagery. Her second major role came in the 1980s, as Auntie Entity in "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" (the prequel in the "Mad Max" film franchise), the stylistically iconic Amazonian queen of the post-apocalyptic fictional land, Bartertown. Turner's hit music video for "We Don't Need Another Hero," her contribution to the film's soundtrack, made use of Aunty Entity's wild costumes and the film's unique imagery. In 1993 the Turner biopic, "What's Love Got to do with It," based on her memoir, was popularly received, portraying Turner's strained relationship with estranged husband and longtime music collaborator and manager Ike Turner. Angela Bassett's performance as Turner won a Golden Globe award as well as an Oscar nomination; Laurence Fishburne's portrayal of Ike Turner was nominated for an Oscar as well. Turner voiced all the music performances for Bassett, had a fairly short cameo at the end of the film, and released a new song intended for the soundtrack.
