Wayne Morris was born in Los Angeles on 2/17/14. Made his acting debut in 1937 in the film "Kid Galahad". In 1940, Morris learned to fly for the film "Flight Angels", which was a turning point in his life.He put his acting career on hold to join the Navy Reserve. During World War 2 Morris served as a Navy fighter pilot aboard the USS Essex and flew 57 combat missions, shooting down 7 enemy planes and sinking 5 enemy ships. He was awarded 4 Distinguished Flying Crosses(for heroism in aerial combat) and 2 Air Medals. After the war he attempted to return to his acting career, but the films he was able to get work in were mostly low budget westerns. Morris' best role was as a cowardly officer in Stanley Kubrick's "Paths Of Glory"(1957). The role appeared to prove his credibility as a character actor. Sadly Morris died of a massive heart attack while visiting the USS Bon Homme Richard as a guest of the navy on Sept 14, 1959 at the age of 45. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors as was befitting the person Wayne Morris was.
