Entering films as a lab assistant for Paramount, Fapp's first picture as a photographer was "World Premiere" in 1941. His lighting was used to its best advantage in the film "To Each His Own," in which leading lady Olivia de Havilland aged thirty years. In 1959, Fapp left Paramount to freelance with independent producers.
