A Few Good Men
- michael whitty
Insightful court room drama with Tom Cruise as a navy lawyer trying to get at the truth as two marines are accused of murder. Jack Nicholson is also excellent playing a marine officer who may have had something to do with this. Eventually it comes down to...."I want the truth" shouts Tom Cruise and he gets from Jack..."You can't handle the truth". Rob Reiner directs successfully as this military courtroom saga was a hit in theaters.
live by the snark..die by the snark.
the lead characters were in a glib off. the spirit of paul newman thinks the acting control of tom cruise died and was cremated during this story. kevin Pollack was never professionally cared about after this movie. wait at least 5 more years before you mention..you know. I like eve arden. I thought eve arden was the best. demi more ..you sure as hell are no eve arden. they should have cut old movie footage of arden and used her in the story. jack Nicholson was on cough syrup during the courtroom scene and eating lots of turkey between takes..to calm him down. the movie was really directed by a photo of abe vagoda. for one whole day..tom cruise actually thought his middle name.. as his character.. was beaver brown. the reason.. he had another movie stuck in his head.
You Can't Handle The Truth!
Tom Cruise vehicle owned by Jack Nicholson as a ballsy Marine leader with a murder on his hands. The pace is a bit slow at times as JAG officer Cruise puts together a case against Nicholson, but the ending trial scene is the payoff. It features Nicholson's classic line during his testimony, "You can't handle the truth!" in response to Cruise's "I want the truth!" Cruise is warned by his team NOT to go for the jugular, but he does and nails the big fish. There are 10,000 actresses who could have bettered Demi Moore as Cruise's co-star, but she was the "it" actress of that era. As for Cruise, he is pretty good here, hitting his stride in the climatic courtroom scene. My favorite line is one of his last in the film: "I am NOT your son. I am a lawyer and an officer in the United States Navy. And YOU are under arrest, you son of a bitch." Bam!
Decent performances but the screenplay is stagnant and predictable. Important mainly for the climatic courtroom scene between Nicholson and Cruise
A Few Good Men (1992)
- James Higgins
Good story, it's a little predictable but it's very well handled and always interesting. Great direction from Rob Reiner, and equally good screenplay. Fine pacing. Jack Nicholson is excellent in a small role, the entire cast does a good job with one exception - Tom Cruise. He is never convincing, and it always seems like he's reading his lines, but not acting. He very much hurts the film.
A Few Good Men
Thought this movie to be an excellent non action military movie. Jack Nicholson great as ever with a real nice twist from Tom Cruise. Demi Moore and Tom Cruise play a real good love/hate relationship throughout the movie. Acting was excellent and the court room drama climax added a fantastic ending.
