A little slow but gorgeous movie celebrating the best in movie entertainment in the 50's. The "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" dance is phenomenal. The technicolor and the incredibly beautiful fashions of the era are delightful. It is a more sensual, sumptuous version of the original "Roberta." One could only wish the dialogue and Red Skelton's comedic sequences worked better.
Marge and Gower Champion steal the show
Their dance to "I Won't Dance" was just okay, but their other two numbers -- "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" orchestrated and the fashion show number -- were amazing. A very entertaining movie, despite some creaky spots. (such as Howard Keel singing "Lovely to Look At" as a mirror apparition.)

A wonderful show
Lovely To Look At - (remake of Roberta)
There are only a couple of reasons to watch this movie. If you love fantastic music, exceptional dancing, wonderful singing, or just a great musical. If you don't like any of these, then skip this one. On second thought, if you watch this movie, you just may fall in love with all of the above.
Fabulous 1950's fashion and music
The cast and music is great, but I love seeing the fabulous 1950's fashion ... so really extraordinary .... celebrating the age of "pretty."
I haven't seen this movie since I was EIGHT years old (npw 67)..I remember going with my sisters and cousins one Saturday afternoon in Johannesburg. Opulent, kitschy, dated , georgeous. The grand MGM musicals where a shot turns into a never-ending sound stage with a glorious fantasy ballet sequence, and who knew? "Smoke Gets in your Eyes' and a Howard Keel younger than Seven Brides and Showboat!!! And beautiful beautiful Ann Miller, always fabulous. I wept. Real tears.
"Lovely to Look At"
(The film, that is)! I thought I'd seen every great musical & then TCM aired this one. It's so rich with a great cast, especially Kathryn Grayson & Howard Keel's singing duets & solos, Red Skelton's antics, Marge & Gower Champion's gorgeous dance movements & a very funny story to go with all of that. How'd this musical go under the public's radar screen? Hmmm?-------------------------------------Submitted by: Prof_Alice firstname.lastname@example.org

The Title Says IT All
- Ann CArter
The title of this musical says it all. This movie is just beautiful to the eyes. The sets, gowns, dancing and backgrounds are really splendid. It reminds us of how spectacular and cheerful it was in the early '50's when America, tired of war and suffering turned to splendid bright colors to renew the spirit. How unfortunate that we have lost the desire to dress in such lovely attire and behave as humans should. A great film with a soft but pleasant story, not too much singing and just enough dancing.
