FULL SYNOPSIS

Restaurateur Pa Slocum sells out and moves uptown just as "Speed" Dawson, a steelworker, is getting interested in his daughter, Helen, sidewalk salesgirl of Slocum's box lunches. Edwin Leroy, a physical instructor who has lived across the hall from the Slocums, is also wooing Helen. To Speed's disappointment, Helen, whom he liked because of her simple ways, begins to dress modishly--bare legs and short skirts. To Slocum's horror, his wife goes on a diet, causing her to be ill-tempered and unpredictable. Speed and Slocum decide to drown their sorrow at a dancehall when Helen and Mrs. Slocum go to a turkish bath with Edwin Leroy. Speed and Slocum flee to the bath when the dancehall is raided and discover that it is ladies' night. The humorous situation culminates in Speed's winning Helen.
