This would have been an excellent movie to include in TCM 2014 Memorial Day weekend marathon. Not often shown but it should be. A good account of fight for the Philippines. Star Ty Power was a decorated Marine Pilot in action in the Pacific and should be respected for it. This is a good movie with a great actor who was one of Hollywood's World War 2 veteran patriots. Some actors who starred in popular war-related hero themes that are often shown on patriotic occasions never went to war, ironically.

Power and Ewell are very effective as stranded navy men fighting the Japanese in the Philippine jungles. The story is interesting from a historical point of view. Thankfully, this movie is now available on DVD. Very worthwhile and well produced war drama.

Based on a true story about stranded American servicemen who join the guerrilla movement to free the Philippines from the Japanese in WWII Tyrone Power gives a very natural performance playing a guy, an everyman serviceman stuck in the jungles of the Pacific fighting to stay alive and fight the enemy along with a loose network of other American soldiers and sailors. Interesting from a historical point of view. A tenderly played love story-criticised by some as spoiling the movie-developes between Power as Chuck Palmer and a French woman played by Micheline Presell. I think the love story adds a warm human element that enhances the story. Power is very effective in this totally unglamorous role. He was never given credit for the sensitive portrayals he gave in many of his modern day roles. Tom Ewell was very fine in a supporting role. Interesting movie worth a look.

I believe this is a great movie that should be shown, around the same time as other war movies are shown around patriotic holidays

Please play "AMERICAN GUERILLA IN THE PHILIPPINES" along with"Crash Dive" with Tyrone Power. These are two really good WW II Pacific Theatre movies.
