The film's working title was Baby Is Here. A March 14, 1949 Hollywood Reporter news item reports that Evelyn Keyes was placed on suspension for refusing a part in the film. On April 25, 1949, Hollywood Reporter noted that Columbia had tried to borrow Ronald Reagan from Warner Bros., but he turned down the offer. On April 25, 1949, Hollywood Reporter announced that Robert Cummings would star with Barbara Hale. Howland Chamberlin replaced Whit Bissell in the role of "Otto Stacy" when the latter developed pneumonia, according to a June 2, 1949 Los Angeles Daily News news item.
