When FBI agent Barry Scott decodes a menacing message from the Germans about Dr. Reisner, a scientist who is working on a device to detect night air raids, he and his fellow agents race to Reisner's laboratory. Before they get there, however, German spies John Brandt and Fritz destroy the laboratory and kill Reisner's assistant. Barry and his men arrive in time to rescue Reisner and his daughter Christine, but the spies later succeed in kidnapping the scientist after art dealer Henri Franck, the leader of the spy ring, murders an FBI agent and uncovers Reisner's hiding place. By decoding another message, Barry learns that the spy ring is expecting a new member, and he infiltrates their organization, using the name Hoeffler. Reisner recognizes Barry immediately, but says nothing. The spies call Christine, who believes her father was killed in a fiery car wreck, and let Reisner speak to her. Barry also speaks to Christine, who recognizes his voice but is unaware of his undercover mission. When she calls him by his real name just as Mona Brandt, one of the spies, is taking the phone, Mona denounces Barry as an impostor, and Franck has him locked in a trailer. Fortunately, Barry discovers a wireless radio set and uses it to contact the FBI, which captures the spy ring and rescues Reisner, leaving Barry free to pursue a romance with Christine.
