Very similar to the television series, it has the same format. This is a little more bitter though than the series. Good cast, it has the expected corny dialogue and Jack Webb's very dry acting style. A must for fans of the series.

  • Dragnet (1954) needs to be on DVD/Blu-RAY

  • NO DRAGNET DVD ?

Why no Dragnet (1954) dvd ? TCM recently put out PETE KELLYS BLUES and THE D.I. and both are classic WEBB vehicles but why overlook his most well known and successful film ? This movie begs to be given the CRITERION treatment . Extras could inclued trailers , interviews with ,oh, maybe Martin Milner who was a friend of Webbs and played in some of the old DRAGNET TV episodes and of coarse ADAM -12, Michael Hayde , author of " My Names Friday" ,one of 2 Jack Webb bios . Outtakes , if there are any , would be nice and maybe a pairing with the also unreleased DRAGNET 66 TV MOVIE PIOLT.

This ia classic piece of cinema. That really needs to be seen more. Jack Webb at his best as the orignal 50's Sgt. Friday, and Ben Alexander as Frank Smith. Top-notch all the way, great direction and narrative. See what Dragnet was before it became a subject of ridicule and bad parody. Dragnet 1954,see it.

I always admired Jack Webb and "Dragnet" was one of my favorites --- felt the urge to become a cop. The movie is slick, dialogue crisp but real people do not cmmunicate this way. One thing that I remember about Jack Webb is that he usually ends up marrying his leading lady for real. Worth watching.
