Veers from interesting (Frank Lovejoy's very believable take on a self indulgent musician) to boring (the entire film is an answer to the question, Why didn't Danny Thomas ever make it in movies?) to nauseating (the Doris Day minstrel show), with one or two good songs to keep one pleasantly anesthetized. Give it a C minus.
Outstanding performances, great music--- if this film doesn't do it for you, you're watching the wrong genre!

This bar none is proablly this best of Doris day and shows that Warner brothers can put out a better musical then any other studio, including MGM. If you have a chance to see it ---"dont miss it"!!!
Doris Day and Danny Thomas at their Best
- Classic Movie Fan
This is a great film. Danny Thomas is impressive as songwriter Gus Kahn. Doris Day is great as well. I highly recommend this film and the songs are just great. Doris Day is at her best and boy can she sing!! The support cast is equally great. Please put it on DVD!!! I can asure you that Doris Day fans will love it.
