The working title of the film was Easy Going. Although Edward Peple's play is not mentioned in the credits, the plot of the play, as well as some of the characters' names, is very similar to the film's plot and character names. Motion Picture Herald's "In the Cutting Room" adds Edgar Dearing and Ann Hovey to the cast, while a Hollywood Reporter news item adds Chester Clute. Their participation in the final film has not been confirmed. Peple's play was first filmed in 1918 by Essanay; Lawrence C. Windom directed and Taylor Holmes and Robert Conness starred in this silent (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1911-20; F1.4387). In 1930, Fred Newmeyer directed Ginger Rogers in Queen High, a Paramount-Publix film that was based on Peple's play and on a 1926 musical by Laurence Schwab, B. G. DeSylva and Lewis Gordon (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.4387).
