The working title of this film was Bowery Bloodhounds. Opening credits read as follows: "Allied Artists Productions presents Leo Gorcey and The Bowery Boys in Private Eyes." The production sheet in copyright records incorrectly credits actor Lee Van Cleef as "Karl," a role played by Myron Healey in the film. Van Cleef does not appear in Private Eyes. In addition, Wilbur Mack is listed in the cast in a June 29, 1953 Hollywood Reporter news item, but his appearance in the final film has not been confirmed.
