Just found this in VHS format at amazon and enjoyed it very much. Sonja Henie 's skating numbers were beautifully staged and performed. The comedic story is fizzy and lighthearted. Tyrone Power was given too few roles in his career to show off his great flare for light comedy. Here he is at the height of his attractive youth and utterly charming, especially in his scenes with veteran actress Edna Mae Oliver as Sonja's aunt. Second Fiddle is an uncomplicated old Hollywood musical comedy romance with everything an OH film fancier would love. Really should be released on DVD. A treat of a movie.

Sonia Henie and Tyrone Power had been romantically involved. Some say the pairing was just the work of 20th Century Fox publicity. Other sources claim they were the real deal for a while. Mirrors the story of Second Fiddle. Either way, Power and Henie were young, beautiful and delightful together in these light comedies from the 1930s. Sonia skates and Tyrone sings. Fluffy trifle, but lots of fun provided by two enormously popular stars. A reminder of what people were enjoying when they went to the movies back then.

  • Lovely and Forgettable

This is probably the least memorable of the Henie roles and the most forgettable of the Berlin songs. Never-the-less, I appreciate the former style of skating that emphasized grace and figures rather than pure athleticism. This production is a figure skating musical, and Henie does some of her best work here.

A TCM page with the "Vote now" button will appear. This is a beautiful figure skating musical, starring Sonja Henie and Tyrone Power. Sonja Henie's figure skating scenes are wonderful. Tyrone Power is excellent as her clever publicist. The music and songs are great. I hope a DVD is released soon.

  • Beautiful ice skating scenes with Sonja Henie

This is a lovely ice skating film, starring Sonja Henie, the Norwegian figure skater who won three Olympic gold medals. There are some beautiful figure skating scenes in "Second Fiddle." In one scene, Sonja Henie skates gracefully in an elegant arena, dressed in a glittering skating costume. Later, she skates on a frozen lake, which reflects the shadows of winter tree branches. On the lake, she skates a beautiful routine, with many spins, jumps and point footwork, in a white skating dress. The storyline is fun and lighthearted.
